The Stanley Cup is the trophy you receive when you win the championship in the NHL. Kids dream of holding the silvery hunk of metal. Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas won it last year, and they celebrated about as hard as a group of adult men can celebrate without serious consequences.
But then when it was all over, he said that you work all your life to win the Stanley Cup -- and his journey was far more grueling than most -- and you don't think about what you do after that.
I often wonder how athletes feel the morning after the win a championship. I wonder when the joy fades. I wonder what motivates them next. I wonder how many championships is enough.
I've never had a 'morning after' like that, but I hope I'll know what to do when I get there.
